A newish disease, the dog flu or canine flu, is sweeping across the country. Thankfully, there is a vaccine for it, so if its spreading near you, you may want to consider having your pet vaccinated against it.
It is usually passed on from dog to dog, though a dog can catch it from a human if that human has been in contact with an infected dog. It is not passed from dog to human.
Symptoms in dogs are similar to a human flu. It apparently last anywhere from one to two weeks. Should your dog come down with it, he will have a fever, develop a cough, be congested and if not treated could end up with complications from it.
With cases now reported in over 30 states, many kennels are requiring flu shots for dogs before taking them in.
